JAKARTA (Yosefadi) – The Ethics Councilof the Constitutional Court has Friday (Nov 1) officially dismissed Court Chief Justice Akil Mochtar due to ethical violation.
The Court expects President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to issue a presidential decree on the dismissal of Akil Mochtar within next 14 days.
Akil Mochtar, graft suspect, is plunged into deeper disgrace as DNA test conducted by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) confirmed Akil’s DNA with marijuana found from a raid at Akil’s office.
While facing drugs charges, Akil has earlier been facing graft and money laundering charges. He has been named as suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) related to the graft case in handling of post-election disputes in Lebak regency (Banten) and Gunung Mas regency (Central Kalimantan).
In a related progress, the remaining eight judges of the Constitutional Court are expected to conduct an election to choose new Chief Justice today.
Politician from PDI-P earlier urged judges of Constitutional Court with political-background to turn off from the election of new Chief Justice. While other politicians asked the Court to postpone the election. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
