National Police has earlier on Friday (January 16) promoted Inspector General Budi Waseso as the new chief of detectives (Kabareskrim) to replace Commissioner General Suhardi Alius.
Budi Waseso was regional police chief of Gorontalo in North Sulawesi area. Waseso was famous for arresting his senior, then chief of detectives Susno Duadji, in 2010.
Suhardi Alius, meanwhile, is moved to the National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) as main secretary to replace Boy Salamudin.
Suhardi is said one of top ranks in the national police strongly opposing the nomination of Budi Gunawan as police chief.
Suhardi and the dismissed police chief Sutarman have been accused of helping provide evidence of corruption committed by Budi Gunawan to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Suhardi denied the allegation. “I have close relationship with KPK and PPATK because that was part of my job as chief detective,” Suhardi argued.
Earlier on Thursday, Muhammad Yusuf, chief of the anti-money laundering agency PPATK, said he believes KPK used data and analysis submitted by PPATK on August 11, 2014 regarding suspicious transactions of Budi Gunawan behind the anti-corruption agency’s decision to name Gunawan as suspect.
“The report is 70-page thick, while our letter to National Police in 2010 was only 10-page,” Yusuf said.
Yusuf added that PPATK has mentioned about the suspicious transactions of Budi Gunawan when he met President Jokowi in the selection of cabinet members. “I informed the President that he (Budi Gunawan) is red-marked (so don’t chose him as minister,” said Yusuf in a conversation with editorial members of Kompas.
