JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan has been mentioned as one of potential candidates for becoming the new deputy chief of the National Police.

The newly chief of the National Police Gen. Badrodin Haiti has confirmed the report. But Badrodin said that all of the potential nominees of his deputy are still discussed by the National Police’s Rank and Promotion Council for High-Ranking Officers (Wanjakti).

Budi Gunawan now serves as the head of the National Police Educational Division (Lemdikpol).

He has earlier won a pre-trial petition against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as the South Jakarta District Court concluded that the KPK’s decision on naming him as a graft suspect is baseless and illegitimate.

Previously, Budi has been nominated as new police chief before President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo decided to withdraw Budi’s nomination and proposed Badrodin’s name as new police chief instead. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
