JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – PT Bank BRI Tbk, world’s largest micro-lender, has injected Rp500 billion of capital into its sharia unit, PT Bank BRISyariah.
Following the injection, the sharia unit now has an enlarged capital of Rp1.475 trillion. Bank BRI controls 99.99% stake in the unit, while Yayasan Kesejahteraan Pegawai BRI only gets tiny portion.
Back in late 2012, President Director of BRI Syariah Moch Hadi Susanto stated the company intends to launch IPO by 2014. He stated the company planned to request Rp1 trillion capital injection from its parent company before offering its shares to public investors.
Bank BRISyariah was founded through a merger between Bank BRI’s sharia unit with PT Bank Jasa Arta in September 2007, before being spined off and solely operating as Bank BRI’s subsidiary in December 2008.
As of March 2013, BRISyariah’s total asset stood at Rp15.1 trillion, representing 2.85% from total consolidated asset. The company booked Rp389.8 billion of revenues in the first quarter 2013.
