JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – PT Bintang Smelter Indonesia (BSI) plans to build nickel smelter in South Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, which costs US$100 million, Bisnis.com reported.

The company is owned by the consortium of PT Ifishdeco, Finna Group Surabaya, PAN China Group (Fujian Pan-Chinese Mining Co, Ltd) China and Tekindo Group.

The groundbreaking of nickel smelter is scheduled next month, using blast furnace technology, an environment-friendly technology.

The Jakarta Post reported this morning, Glencore Xstrata and United Company RUSAL plan to set up ore refineries in Indonesia, to take advantage of the country’s policy banning unprocessed ore exports, beginning next year.
