JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – PT Bintan Alumina Indonesia plans to build smelter for processing bauxite into alumina. The project will cost US$700-800 million.
Zulnahar Usman, director of Bintan Alumina, said the company has cleared 30-40% of land for the project which totals 2,000 hectares.
Bintan Alumina will also build 3 power plants with capacity of 110 megawatts. PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will supply electricity to that 3 power plant modules. The smelter needs electricity power of 200-300 megawatts.
Bintan Alumina targets to produce 1-2 million tons of alumina and commercial production is expected to run by 2016.
