JAKARTA (Indonesia Today) – Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional (BTPN) gets support from central bank, Bank Indonesia (BI)for acquiring 70% stake in Bank Sahabat Purba Danarta.
BI is now processing the acquisition proposal of BTPN, for then granting an approval. BI revealed that this acquisition does not violate the regulation of banks ownership as the acquisition is aimed to spin-off syariah-unit.
Edy Setiadi, director of Sharia Banking Department of Bank Indonesia, earlier said the central bank sees no problem for BTPN to establish sharia bank.
Edy said the country needs more sharia banks to achieve the target of 15-20% of sharia banks by 2020.
