ANTWERP (Indonesia Today) – Sipef Group produced 1,447 tons of tea in the first half of 2012, an increase of 12% from the corresponding period of 2011 due to better weather conditions in Indonesia.
“Notwithstanding a difficult start of the year in the tea gardens of Cibuni on Java, due to lack of sunshine, the better weather conditions from March onwards led to a substantial increase in the production of black tea (+12.0%),” Sipef said this week.
Tea prices remained steady during the second quarter as a result of poor crops not only in Kenya, but also in India and Sri Lanka. “As demand for good teas did not diminish during that period top quality teas continued to fetch very good levels,” Sipef said.
Average price of tea was US$2,740 per ton FOB in the first half of 2012, down slightly from US$2,940 per ton in the first half of 2011. (Indonesia Today)
