JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Coal miner PT Berau Coal Energy Tbk (BRAU) mulls to invest US$180 million on power plant project with capacity of 100 megawatts in Sumatra, a diversification option amid bearish coal industry.
BRAU would acquire coal mining concession to supply to the power plant. The project, as remain under review, would not be realized this year, might be next year.
As of May this year, BRAU produced 10.15 million tons of coal and booked revenues of US$579 million. The company targets to produce 26 million tons of coal this year, compared to 23.5 million tons last year.
Assuming coal price at US$55-56 per ton, BRAU predicts to book revenues of US$1.4 billion this year.
