JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Panel of Judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced Ratu Atut Chosiyah, non-active Banten Governor and Golkar Party key leader, for four years in prison as she is proven guilty of bribing Akil Mochtar, the disgraced former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and former Golkar lawmaker, related to the handling of post-election dispute of Lebak Regency.

The sentence, however, is lighter than 10 years jail demanded by the prosecutor team of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

In addition, panel of judges presided by Matheus Samiadji also ordered Atut to pay Rp200 million in fine or to serve another additional five months jail term.

KPK, meanwhile, will likely file an appeal against the verdict.

KPK charged Atut, along with her brother Tubagus Chaery Wardana aka Wawan, for bribing Akil Mochtar with Rp1 billion bribe money through Susi Tur Andayani (an advocate). The bribe scheme was to favor a lawsuit filed by the losing pair candidate of Lebak regency election endorsed by Golkar.

Previously, Wawan had been sentenced to five years in prison. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
