JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Ratu Atut Chosiyah, non-active Banten Governor and Golkar Party key leader, is facing her verdict trial on Monday (September 1) for a bribery scandal related to the handling of post-election dispute of Lebak Regency implicating Akil Mochtar, the disgraced former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and former Golkar lawmaker.
At the time of writing, the trial is ongoing at the Jakarta Corruption Court in Kuningan, South Jakarta.
As reported earlier, Atut is accused along with her brother, Tubagus Chaery Wardana aka Wawan, for bribing Akil Mochtar with Rp1 billion bribe money through Susi Tur Andayani (an advocate). The bribe scheme was to favor a lawsuit filed by the losing pair candidate of Lebak regency election endorsed by Golkar.
The KPK’s prosecutor team has earlier demanded panel of judges to drop 10 years in jail to Atut. The prosecutor team also demanded panel of judges to order Atut to pay Rp250 million in fine or to serve another five months additional jail term.
Atut had been detained at the KPK detention center since December 20, 2013 following KPK’s decision to name her as one of suspects in the case on December 17, 2013. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
