JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has finally put into trial the Rp6.7 trillion Bank Century scandal (now Bank Mutiara) at the Jakarta Corruption Court Thursday (March 6).

Jakarta Corruption Court today holds first trial for this mega scandal, hearing the defendant Budi Mulya, former Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) and suspect of this case.

Budi was alleged for violating article 2 paragraph 1 jo article 18 of the Anti-Corruption Law No. 20/2001 jo article 55 paragraph 1 point 1 jo article 64 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP). Budi had also allegedly abused his power and violated article 3 jo article 18 of the Anti-Corruption Law jo article 55 paragraph 1 point 1 of the KUHP.

Interestingly, the prosecutor team from the KPK mentioned that Budi has abused his power along with Boediono as Governor of Bank Indonesia (now Vice President of the Republic), Miranda Swaray Goeltom as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Siti CH Fadjrijah as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, the late Budi Rochadi as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Robert Tantular (former owner of Bank Century), and Hermanus Hasan Muslim (former CEO of Bank Century).

But so far the status of Vice President Boediono is still a witness in the case.

Meanwhile the House of Representatives (DPR) Supervisory Team on Bank Century bailout scandal is keen to re-summon Boediono for questioning, but Boediono rejected. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
