Dem’s Treasurer: Primary Spends Rp40 Billion

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Indrawati Sukadis, General Treasurer of Democratic Party, revealed that the party’s recent primary costed Rp40 billion. From the substantial fund, Indrawati stated, the biggest portion was allocated to support media coverage, mostly for airtime on the television program. Indrawati claimed that most of the funds were sourced from party’s cadres. However, she refused to mention the nominal of contribution from businessmen. “There are invisible sources. We have a source like that everywhere,” Indrawati added. Democrat party has picked 11 candidates to their primary as party’s president candidate. Some of the candidates were under pressure to resign from their public position such as Minister of Trade Gita Wirjawan and BPK Member Ali Masykur Musa. Mysterious Shooter Urged to Be Arrested

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Akil Mochtar, Constitutional Court Chief, expressed his concern related to the recent shooting incident. He underlined that police should act immediately to arrest the shooter. According to Akil, more law enforcement officer, like him, could be the next victim if the shooter is allowed to walk free in the street. Moreover, Akil stated that the recent shooting incident has also tarnished the state dignity. “Symbol of the state to enforce the law is the law enforcement officer. If we let it (shooting in the street) happen, we are no different with Colombia and Cuba,” said Akil. Akil explained that in his opinion, the recent shooting incident were committed systematically. Therefore, he added, the police officer should fight them back with systematic plan. On Sep. 10, 2013, the capital city was again shocked by the killing of a police officer. Bripka Sukardi, a provost member, was shot to death in front of The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building, South Jakarta. Supreme Court Turns Down Astro’s Appeal

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Legal battle between founder of Lippo Group James Riady and his Malaysian former business partner Ananda Krishnan enters the final chapter. In the latest verdict, James Riady has once again affirmed his victory in Indonesian court against Krishnan’s Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad. The Supreme Court recently diminished Astro’s hope to claim US$303 million from Riady’s PT First Media Tbk. in Indonesia. On the verdict, the court declared the ruling of Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) cannot be executed in Indonesia’s jurisdiction. In February 2010 SIAC awarded US$303 million compensation to Astro. Astro, however, sees a brighter future despite the current lost on litigation process. The Malaysian company played down the loss and stated that Indonesia is the only one out of five jurisdictions relevant to the case not to allow the enforcement of SIAC’s awards. Astro and Lippo are also involved in legal feud in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and United Kingdom. Respodning to the verdict, Astro will likely file another legal action. On the advice of it’s Indonesian counsel, Astro believes that there is a strong ground to seek legal recourse and challenge the decision of the Supreme Court. Court Revokes Chevron’s Rp2.5 billion Fines

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Central Jakarta District Court declared that Rp2.5 billion fines imposed to Chevron Indonesia Company was revoked. On Sep. 11, 2013, Panel of the judges considered that the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) failed to prove that Chevron has committed serious business competition violation. The judges assessed that a mistype in the tender process did not give any commercial advantage to Chevron. Previously KPPU started the investigation over Chevron for allegation of monopoly practice. Police Shot Dead in Front of KPK Building

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The capital city is again shocked by the killing of a police officer.  Bripka Sukardi, a provost member, was shot to death last night in front of The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building, South Jakarta. Police is still investigating the case and has yet to name any suspect. Puji Hartanto, Chief of National Traffic Police, revealed that the police will sweep of any vehicle inside or outside the capital city. “We are still chasing (the shooter) … we welcome anyone with useful information,” said Puji. Badrodin Haiti, Chief of National Security Police, explained that the shooter used an illegal weapon, likely FN 4.5mm caliber. “It can be confirmed that the shooter used an illegal weapon and we will trace it down,” Badrodin said. Sukardi previously guarded six trucks from Tanjung Priok Port using a motorcycle. When the convoy passed in front of the KPK office around eleven o’clock, four people with motorcycles cornered the convey and one of them shot Sukardi to death. At National Independence Day in Aug. 17, 2013, a police officer was also shot to death in Pondok Aren as he was on his way to attend the Independence Day ceremony....
