Corruption Court Acquits Medan Suspended Major

Medan (Yosefardi) – Rahudman Harahap, Medan suspended Major, will likely to regain its post after Medan Corruption Court acquitted him from all charges on Thursday, Aug. 15. Panel of the judges declared that the State Prosecutor failed to prove their indictment that the newly fired Democrat Party politician has committed corruption. “The Corruption Court, therefore, acquits the defendant from all charges,” said presiding judge Sugiyanto. Responding to the decision, the State Prosecutor straightly decided to file a cassation to the Supreme Court. Previously Rahudman was charged 4 years imprisonment by the prosecutor, added with Rp500 million in fines ad Rp480.4 million compensation. The suspended major, when served as South Tapanuli Administration Secretary, was accused committed Rp1.5 billion graft from rural government apparatus allowance. The corruption allegation has brought Rahudman’s party to fire him from Deputy of Honorary Counsel of Democratic Party’s North Sumatera Chapter....

Jakarta City Administration Lost a Land Dispute against PT Copylas

JAKARTA, Indonesia Today ??? Jakarta Provincial Administration has lost a land dispute trial over a compensation of a land with social and public utilities status against PT Copylas Indonesia. Supreme Court decides to turn down Jakarta Government???s appeal. With the decision, PT Copylas is entitled to have the compensation over an 8.2 hectares land for Jakarta Outer Ring Road West 2. PT Copylas has earlier received Rp187 billion from the Jakarta Administration as consignation through verdict from West Jakarta District Court in December 2011. The case started on the construction process of the Ring Road back in 1997. Copylas claimed the land, which will be used for the construction, is theirs, while Jakarta Regional Administration argued that the land was owned by regional government for social and public utilities. West Jakarta District Court then ruled in favor of PT Copylas and ordered Public Works Ministry to give the compensation to the company. The case has also been brought to the State Administrative Court that also gave a victory to PT Copylas. Unsatisfied with the ruling, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo brought the case to Supreme Court in March 2012. Supreme Court made their decision on August 8th, 2012, which forced Fauzi Bowo, for once again, to admit a loss in the land dispute....

Prosecutor Demands Four Years Prison for Miranda

JAKARTA (Indonesia Today) ??? Prosecutor from the antigraft commission (KPK) charges that Miranda Goeltom, former senior governor of Bank Indonesia and graft suspect, is guilty of bribing some lawmakers to smoothen out her bid for Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor in 2004. The prosecutor demands Jakarta Corruption Court to sentence her four years prison. Miranda was also demanded to pay Rp150 million in fines, which can be replaced with additional 4 months jail time. The prosecutor team stated that Miranda, by herself or along with graft convict Nunun Nurbaeti, has distributed 480 traveler cheques to lawmakers of 1999-2004 period amounting Rp24 billion. The Bank International Indonesia (BII) traveler cheques were given related to her fit and proper test as candidate for senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia in 2004. KPK charged her with article 5 paragraph 1 b or article 13 of corruption law. Article 5 paragraph 1 b of Law No 20/2001 said that everyone gives something to civil servant due to his/her authority and which contradicts with his/her duty, could be punished with a maximum 5 years prison. Several lawmakers such as Hamka Yamdu, Dudhie Makmun Murod, Endin Soefihara, and Udju Djuhaeri have been sentenced guilty receiving bribe on the Miranda???s election process.
