Thirteen Missing, Six Die in Vessel Accident

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – 13 people are reportedly missing and six died in the accident of Express Bahari. The vessel with total 184 passengers caught fire last night, Aug. 22, 2013 in Nasik Strait, Belitung. Boemi Aryo Bimo, Belitung District Military Commander, revealed that the evacuation process is still conducted and 184 passengers has successfully been evacuated. “The latest development, 184 has been evacuated from Express Bahari,” said Boemi as quoted by Tribun News. One of the vessel crew claimed that the fire did not come from burned engine. He, furthermore, said that it was likely sourced from economic class passenger’s used cigarette. More Lawmakers Likely Dragged in Hambalang Scandal

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The anti graft commission KPK opens a possibility of more lawmakers involved in the Hambalang sports center graft case. The statement was given related to the audit by Supreme Audit Board (BPK) that will be submitted today, Aug. 23, 2013. Koran Tempo reported that the audit result showed the budget allocation for Hambalang sports center budget was passed by 9 lawmakers in Commission X of The House (overseeing education and sport) back in 2010. The lawmakers, including Mahyuddin N.S (Democrat), Rully Chaerul Azwar(Golkar) and Heri Akhmadi (PDI-P), had approved the Rp600 billion budget allocation for the controversial project. Responding to the second Hambalang case audit report, KPK spokesperson Johan Budi said that his institution is ready to investigate more related parties. “If there is new report of the others involvement, KPK will follow up,” said Johan. The audit also reportedly will reveal a lot of new development in the case investigation, including the state loss calculation. In the first audit report, BPK was only reported Rp243.66 billion state loss caused by this case. Bambang Widjojanto, KPK deputy, urges BPK to submit the state loss report as soon as possible. Supreme Court Acquits Bahana Case Convict Sudjiono Timan

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Supreme Court made a controversial verdict with granting judicial review filed by the wife of Sujiono Timan, PT Bahana case corruption convict, and releasing the fugitive from all charges. Through verdict No 97 PK/Pid.Sus/2012, Supreme Judge Suhadi, declared that the previous verdict in cassation process contained legal error. Suhadi claimed that the cassation verdict declared that Sujiono committed act against the law. He added that it should be adjudicated with civil law instead of penal code. “The state loss and Timan’s profit could not be calculated since it was a loan,” saud Suhadi as quoted by detik.com. In 2004 trough the Supreme Court decision led by Bagir Manan, Sudjiono Timan was found guilty committed corruption with abusing his authority. As president director of PT Bahana Pembinaan Usaha Indonesia, Timan gave credit facilities to various companies, which lead to more than US$120 million state loss. Intrepid Wants to Speed Up Arbitration

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Australian miner Intrepid Mines Ltd wants to accelerate arbitration process in the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) in order to continue the mining activity. The ASX-listed company hopes the arbitration could be started this month. Previously Intrepid revealed that the company is in the process of finalizing a Notice of Arbitration, which will allow for arbitration proceedings to commence under rules of SIAC. The ASX-listed company demands for 80% interest in Tujuh Bukit Project, which according to the company’s Executive General Manager Clayton Allen Wenas is the right of Intrepid. Despite filing an arbitration claim, Intrepid is ready to settle the case through mediation if the company could reach a settlement with PT Indo Multi Niaga and PT Bumi Suksesindo. “We are willing to accept if there is win-win solution request,” said Clayton as quoted by Bisnis Indonesia. Currently Intrepid is no longer having the right to the Tujuh Bukit Project as the mining license (IUP) has been transferred to Bumi Suksesindo from Indo Multi Niaga.
