JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) revealed that August 2013 inflation was 1.12%, resulting in year-on-year inflation of 8.89% and year-to-date inflation of 7.94%.

Suryamin, head of BPS, said this is the highest August inflation since 1999. Core inflation, according to BPS, reached 1.01% in August and 4.48% year-on-year.

Food contributed 0.45% inflation, while housing, water, electricity, and gas contributed 0.16%. Transportation, communication, and financial services were responsible for 0.16% inflation.

High inflation has triggered Bank Indonesia to raise its benchmark rate by 50 basis point to 7% last week. The decision has temporarily eased pressures on rupiah, which had earlier depreciated more than 10%.
