Shareholders have appointed Asmawi Syam as acting president director of state bank BRI effective January 2nd, 2015.
The government as majority shareholder has yet to appoint definitive president director of BRI to replace Sofyan Basir, who has been appointed CEO of state-owned electricity provider PT Perusahaaan Listrik Negara (PLN).
Asmawi is currently director institutional and SOEs Business at BRI. He has been director of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI), the second largest bank by total assets, since 2007.
