JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Angelina Sondakh, a graft convict and former lawmaker of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s (SBY) Democratic Party, has today (Jan. 6) testified as witness in a trial of the scandalous 2010 Initial Public Offering (IPO) of state flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA).

In the Wednesday’s trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Angelina aka Angie gave her testimonies about the defendant in this case Muhammad Nazaruddin, who is also graft convict and former Democratic Party’s Treasurer.

The former beauty queen told the court that she has known Nazaruddin since 2009 when both listed as Democratic Party’s lawmakers at the House of Representatives (DPR).

In this case, Nazaruddin is alleged for committing money laundering through the purchase of Garuda Indonesia’s shares worth Rp300.85 billion back in 2010 using the money collected by his company PT Duta Graha Indah (DGI) from the construction development of athlete dormitory project.

Both Nazaruddin and Angie have been sentenced to 7 years and 4.5 years in jail by the Jakarta Corruption Court after found guilty in the bribery scandal of athlete dormitory.

As for Angie, the Supreme Court (MA) even dropped heavier punishment to her from 4.5 years to 12 years imprisonment. But last week, the Supreme Court granted Angie’s appeal, and accordingly reduced her jail term from 12 years to 10 years. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
