JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Indonesian military official said that the black box of the crashed AirAsia QZ8501 is not found yet, Kompas.com reported on Friday (Jan. 9). The operation to elevate the QZ8501’s tail, however, continues today.
Chief Sergeant Oot Sudarma delivered the report directly to the Commander of the military, General Moeldoko, at the Indonesian warship the KRI Banda Aceh. Oot, however, also reported that part of the QZ8501’s tail is still buried under the mud.
Oot was among divers from the Navy (TNI AL) tasked to dive into the seabed of the Java Sea in Karimata Strait, of south Kalimantan.
The black box, consisting of a flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR), is a vital equipment to help crash investigators finding out what happened with QZ8501 just before the crash.
AirAsia QZ8501 was crashed on Dec. 28, 2014, in the Karimata Strait, of south Kalimantan, believed to have killed 162 passengers and crew members. 43 bodies have been evacuated from the crash location. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
