JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has received the prestigious Bung Hatta Anti-Corruption Award for his integrity, commitment, and consistency in combating corruption and campaigning for budget transparency.

The award was handed by Meutia Farida Hatta, the first daughter of the late First Vice President of Indonesia Mohammad Hatta, Thursday (Oct. 31).

Commenting to the award, Ahok said that a government official does not need such an award as the government has obligation to combat the corruption.

Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo also attended the ceremonial event and praised his running mate for securing the award.

People are also expecting Jokowi and Ahok to be deserved as president and vice president candidates in next year’s presidential election.

Along with Ahok, Bung Hatta Anti-Corruption Award was also delivered to Nur Pamudji, CEO of State electricity PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).

Named after the late First Vice President of Indonesia Mohammad Hatta (popularly called Bung Hatta), the Bung Hatta Anti-Corruption Award bestowed since 2003. The award was first granted to national hero, the late Mohammad Yamin, former KPK deputy chairman Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas and Tempo journalist Karaniya Dharmasaputra (2003); former West Sumatra Governor Gamawan Fauzi and legal expert Saldi Isra (2004); Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Busyro Muqoddas, and Amien Sunaryadi (2008); Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Herry Zudianto (2010).
