JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Agung Laksono, Chairman of the so-called Presidium for Saving Golkar, has been elected as new Chairman of Golkar Party for the period of 2014-2019 at the Golkar’s chairmanship congress (munas) in Jakarta, Sunday (Dec. 7) evening.

Agung, the former Coordinator Minister of People’s Welfare under SBY-Boediono’s administration, won the election with a landslide victory after securing 147 out of 296 votes. Priyo Budi Santoso and Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, two other candidates of Golkar Chairman, meanwhile, only secured 77 and 71 votes respectively.

Agung said he will submit the new line-up of Golkar’s central executive board (DPP) to the Ministry of Law & Human Rights this morning.

The former Speaker of the 2004-2009 House of Representatives (DPR) also said Golkar will leave the opposition group known as the Red-and-White coalition (KMP) in order to support Jokowi-Kalla’s administration.

On the other side, Aburizal “Ical” Bakrie has won his re-election in another Golkar Munas in Bali as a few days ago. Ical’s side earlier said that they will also submit their version of Golkar’s new management board this morning.

Accordance to Article 23 Paragraph 3 of Political Party Law No. 2/2011, Minister Law & Human Rights should legalize new line-up of political party’s central executive board within 7 days after receiving the proposal. (haryantosuharman@gmail.com)
