JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Jero Wacik, a graft suspect and former Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources (ESDM), is expected today (Feb. 9) to face his verdict trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court.
The politician from Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s (SBY) Democratic Party has previously been charged with Article 2 paragraph 1 or Article 3 juncto Article 18 of the Anti-Corruption Law No. 31/1999 which already amended with Law 20/2001 juncto Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) for committing grafts during his years as minister under SBY administration.
The prosecutor team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) demanded 9 years imprisonment for Jero. In addition, the KPK’s prosecutor team also demanded panel of judges to order Jero to pay Rp300 million in fine or serving additional four months imprisonment.
The KPK’s prosecutor team, moreover, also demanded panel of judges to order the defendant to pay Rp18.7 billion of substitution to the State losses.
Under the ten years of SBY administration, Jero served as Minister of Culture & Tourism from October 2004 to October 2011 before serving as Minister of Energy for three years (2011-2014). (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
