JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – In the first meeting of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the Minister of Finance Bambang P.S. Brodjonegoro acts as representative of regional members who delivers his speech on the AIIB inauguration.
In his speech, the Minister highlights three issues related to the future expectations of AIIB, in which Indonesia has prepared the potential projects to be financed by AIIB.
First, AIIB is expected to cooperate with other international financial institutions to overcome infrastructure issues in the region.
Secondly, AIIB is expected to encourage projects that are environmentally friendly. Lastly, AIIB is expected to always innovate in its operational activities.
AIIB is a multilateral development bank, inter-administration with US$100 billion of capital. Some major sectors are energy, transportation, education and health.
Speaking in a press conference, President AIIB Jin Liqun said that Asia is having problems due to infrastructure gaps and lack of connectivity.
In its first year, AIIB will focus on projects of energy, transport, water resources sectors. AIIB is expected to be an alternative source of financing in infrastructure development and connectivity in Asia.
