JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Vice President Jusuf Kalla is expected to testify today (Jan. 14) as a witness in the graft trial of former Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources (ESDM) Jero Wacik at the Jakarta Corruption Court.

The security forces reportedly deployed additional security officers to strengthen the protection of the court building during the trial.

As reported earlier, Jero Wacik asked panel of judges to summon VP Kalla as a de charge witness for him.

The Democratic Party politician was named as graft suspect by the KPK over two separate graft cases. First is an extortion case when Jero served as Minister of Culture & Tourism.

And second is a corruption case during his term as Minister of Energy that also implicating Waryono Karno, another suspect in the case and former Secretary General of the Energy Ministry.

Under the ten years of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) administration, Jero served as Minister of Culture & Tourism from October 2004 to October 2011 before serving as Minister of Energy for three years (2011-2014). (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
