JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Ade Komaruddin has been sworn in as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) replacing Setya Novanto amidst protest from especially Agung Laksono faction of Golkar Party during the plenary session today (Jan. 11).

Ade was proposed as Novanto’s replacement by Aburizal “Ical” Bakrie faction. While Bakrie’s rival within the Golkar Party, Agung Laksono faction, endorsed Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita as Novanto’s replacement.

Golkar is remain deeply divided into the two warring factions of Bakrie and Agung. The Party, moreover, is in a vacuum of legitimate leadership after the Ministry of Law & Human Rights earlier cancelled their previous decision that acknowledged Agung’s Golkar and also refused to legitimize Bakrie’s Golkar.

A lot of senior figures and young politicians within the Party have strongly called for the new chairmanship congress (Munas) to elect a new party chairman as well as to reunite the Party. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
