JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Andi “Choel” Zoelkarnaen Mallarangeng, a younger brother of former Minister of Youth & Sports Andi Alfian Mallarangeng, as a new suspect in a graft case related to the controversial Hambalang sport center project.
KPK’s daily head of public relation bureau Yuyuk Andriati confirmed the KPK’s decision on naming Choel Mallarangeng as suspect in the case on Monday (Dec. 21). The decision, according to Yuyuk, has been signed by KPK’s previous commissioners since Dec. 16, 2015.
The KPK charged Choel with Article 2 paragraph 1 or Article 3 of the Anti-Corruption Law No. 31/1999 as already amended with Law 20/2001 juncto Article 55 paragraph 1 point 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP).
Previously, Choel’s role in the case had been already mentioned by several witnesses, including Deddy Kusdinar (former Chief of Financial and Internal Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Youth & Sports), during the trial of Hambalang case at the Jakarta Corruption Court.
Choel’s brother Andi Alfian Mallarangeng, who is also former politician from SBY’s Democratic Party, had been sentenced to 4 years in prison as one of suspects in this case. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.
