JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The ethics council (MKD) of the House of Representatives (DPR) has revealed that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PT Freeport Indonesia Rear Air Marshal (ret) Maroef Sjamsoeddin has confirmed his willingness to testify on Thursday (Dec. 3) in the second ethics trial conducted over allegation of ethical violation committed by the House Speaker Setya Novanto, a politician from Golkar Party.

Maroef, who is also former deputy head of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) for 2011-2014, is expected to testify in the MKD’s ethics trial at around 1:00 pm of Jakarta time. Besides Maroef, the MKD also schedules to examining businessman Mohammad Reza Chalid this afternoon. But Reza has so far not confirmed yet to answer the MKD’s call.

In the first trial yesterday, Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said testified to the MKD that it was Maroef who told him about
the meeting between the latter, Novanto, and Reza regarding, among others,
Freeport’s shares. Sudirman also told the MKD that it was Maroef who provided the wiretap of conversation of said meeting to him.

Said wiretap, which contained full conversation between Novanto, Reza, and Maroef, was already aired last night during the MKD’s trial. The conversation revealed even more interesting datapoint. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
