JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Civil society groups continue to push the House of Representatives (DPR) to soon elect and announce the new five commissioners of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the period of 2015-2019 as the current KPK’s commissioners will end their term by December 16, 2015.
Miko Ginting from the Center for Policy and Law Studies (PSHK) questioned the DPR for delaying the election of the KPK’s commissioners while President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had submitted the shortlist of candidates to the DPR since September 2015.
Miko reminded the DPR about Article 30 paragraph 10 of the KPK Law No. 30/2002 obligating the DPR to elect and determining the KPK’s leaders from the shortlist of candidates submitted by the President during.
On the other side, the DPR is now in their recess period. The lawmakers at the DPR will just return from their recess period by November 23, 2015.
That said, yesterday (Nov. 19), the DPR Commission III held a public hearing with the selection committee of the KPK’s leader candidates as part of preparation of the Commission III for conducting a fit and proper test of the KPK’s leader candidates. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
