JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Attorney General Office (AGO) has just named the Governor of North Sumatra Gatot Pujo Nugroho, a politician from PKS, as suspect in a graft case related to the embezzlement of the North Sumatra provincial administration’s social assistance funds (Bansos).

In addition, the AGO’s new junior attorney for special crimes (Jampidsus) Arminsyah said that the AGO also named Eddy Sofyan as another suspect in the case. Eddy is the head of the North Sumatra provincial administration’s National Unity & Community Protection Agency (Kesbanglinmas).

The AGO is expected to examine Gatot as suspect next week. According to Arminsyah, the AGO estimated Rp247 billion of state losses from the case.

Gatot himself is now detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) following the KPK’s decision on naming him as suspect in two other separate cases.

The first case is bribery scandal implicating judges at the State Administrative Court (PTUN) of Medan and senior lawyer Otto Cornelis (OC) Kaligis. In this case, Gatot and his wife Evy Susanti are alleged for delivering bribe money to the judges at the PTUN Medan.

The second case is bribery scandal implicating former secretary general of Nasdem Party Patrice Rio Capella. In this case, Gatot and his wife are alleged for bribing Patrice with Rp200 million fee for tampering the AGO and the High Prosecution office (Kejati) of North Sumatra’s investigation on the embezzlement of the North Sumatra administration’s social funds.
