JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The General Election Commission (KPU) has prepared to postpone the simultaneous regional elections in 13 out of 269 regions should said regions eventually only be participated by one pair of regional leader candidates.
Chairman of KPU Husni Kamil Manik, however, hopes that there will be another pairs of regional leader candidates registering themselves to the KPU in each of said 13 regions in the coming days.
As reported earlier, the KPU has extended the registration period of regional leader candidates in 13 regions for another three days (Aug. 1-3) following the lack of interest from political parties to register their regional leader candidates in said regions.
According to the KPU, only a pair of regional leader candidates is already registered to the KPU in 12 regions until the closing of registration period on last Tuesday (July 28).
The 12 regions are Asahan regency in North Sumatra; Serang regency in Banten; Tasikmalaya regency in West Java; Purbalingga regency in Central Java; Surabaya city, Blitar regency, and Pacitan regency in East Java; Timur Tengah Utara regency in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT); Mataram city in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB); Samarinda city in East Kalimantan; Minahasa Selatan regency in North Sulawesi; and Pegunungan Arfak regency in West Papua.
While there are no regional leaders candidates at all registers in Bolaang Mongondow regency in North Sulawesi. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
