JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim Polri) has established a team assiged to follow up the report from Minister of Marine & Fishery Susi Pudjiastuti regarding illegal fishing practices.
Barekrim Polri head Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso, three-star police general, said the team will be coordinated under the National Police’s Security Maintenance division (Baharkam).
Susi earlier revealed that the permits of 870 ex-foreign boats, out of 1,300, have been expired. Susi had earlier revoked the permits of 4 fishery companies; PT Sino Indonesia Shunlida Fishing, PT S&T Mitra Mina Industri, PT Sino Indonesia Shunlida Fishing, and PT Maju Bersama Jaya
Susi, moreover, said she will award no extension for the permit of 8 other fishery companies — PT Sumber Laut Utama, PT Sino Indonesia Shunlida Fishing, PT Minatama Mutiara, PT Era Sistem Informasindo, PT Starcki Indonesia, PT Chindo Zhenyang, and PT Ombre Lines.
According to Susi, the State suffers Rp3,000 trillion of losses from illegal fishing. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
