JAKARATA (Yosefardi) – Lt. Gen. (ret) Sutiyoso, 70, is expected to undergo a fit & proper test as the sole nominee of the chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) at the House of Representatives (DPR), Tuesday (June 30) morning.
The fit & proper test over Sutiyoso will be held at the meeting room of the House Commission I at around of 10:00 am of Jakarta time.
As earlier reported, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has nominated Sutiyoso as the sole candidate of the BIN chief.
Sutiyoso is Chairman of the Indonesian Justice & Unity Party (PKPI), one of members of the Jokowi-Kalla ruling coalition. Sutiyoso is also former Governor of Jakarta for two periods (1997-2007).
Accordance to Article 36 the State Intelligence Law No. 17/2011, the nomination of new BIN Chief only needs the consideration of the DPR, not an approval, which makes the President to eventually swear in the nominee regardless DPR’s consideration may be. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
