JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has confirmed the nomination of Lt. Gen. (ret) Sutiyoso as the sole candidate for becoming the next Chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN).

Talking to the press on Wednesday (June 10) at his private residence in Surakarta, Central Java, President Jokowi said his decision to name Sutiyoso based on the consideration of the latter’s intelligence and military experiences.

Sutiyoso, 70, is now Chairman of the PKPI, one of political parties in the Great Indonesia ruling coalition (KIH). The PKPI, however, failed to have seat in the House of Representatives (DPR). Sutiyoso also ever served as Governor of Jakarta for two periods from 1997 to 2007.

Later, the DPR will decide on either approving or rejecting Sutiyoso’s nomination as the new BIN Chief. Should the DPR approve his nomination, Sutiyoso will replace Lt. Gen. (ret) Marciano Norman. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
