JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Deputy Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Indriyanto Seno Adji stated that the KPK will conduct new investigation into Ilham Arief Sirajuddin, a politician from SBY’s Democratic Party and former Mayor of Makassar (South Sulawesi).

Indriyanto, as quoted by national media, said that the KPK is now trying to collect new necessary evidences aimed at once again charging Ilham as a graft suspect.

Back in November 2014, the KPK had named Ilham as a graft suspect in a Rp38.1 billion corruption case of the Makassar PDAM tap water company.

But the South Jakarta District Court has recently ruled in favor to Ilham in a pre-trial petition against the KPK. The Court concluded that KPK’s decision to name Ilham as a graft suspect is illegitimate due to lack of evidences.

Ilham, who is Chairman of the Democratic Party’s South Sulawesi chapter, served as Makassar Mayor for two periods (2004-2009 and 2009-2014). (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
