JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Composite index of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) closed higher 0.1% at 5420 on Thursday (April 16), but trade was volatile.

The index moved in positive territory in the morning trade and during half trading in afternoon as it turned to negative territory.

Late buying helped the index closed in green. The index moved at range of 5401-5428 during the day trading.

Asia shares also closed in green on Thursday traders reviewed upbeat quarterly reports and the ECB’s policy announcement, Reuters reported.

Investors focused buying shares of Berau Coal Energy (BRAU), then the stock jumped 13.79%. Profit taking hit this stock as it soared 24% in early morning trade.

Investors accumulated BRAU on report Sinarmas Group, through Asia Coal Ventures, plans to acquire BRAU for a possible US$309.81 million bid.

Alam Sutera rose 1.55%, Bank Central Asia increased 1%, Bumi Resources climbed 2.5%, Kalbe Farma gained 1.08%, and Semen Indonesia surged 4.38%.

Matahari Department Store also hiked 4.8%, Matahari Putra Prima climbed 3.45%, and Bank Tabungan Negara lifted 2.18%.

While Astra International fell 1.53%, BW Plantation dropped 4.61%, London Sumatra lost 3.87%, Jababeka declined 1.87%, and Perusahaan Gas Negara fell 1.59%.

Nymex’s crude oil fell 0.78% to US$55.95 pe4r barrel while gold rose 0.3% to US$1,205 per ounce. The rupiah strengthened to Rp12,838 against the US dollar.
