JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, the daughter of the First President Soekarno, has been appointed as deputy chairman of Gerindra Party, a political party led by Lt. Gen. (ret) Prabowo Subianto.
Rachmawati’s appointment as Prabowo’s deputy was announced in the Gerindra Party’s national leadership meeting (Rapimnas) on Wednesday (Apr. 8).
Rachmawati, a younger sister of PDI-P chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, supported Prabowo and his running mate Hatta Rajasa in the last year’s presidential election. Prabowo-Hatta pair, however, lost the race to Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Jusuf Kalla.
Other than Rachmawati, Gerindra also announced the appointment of businessman Sandiaga S. Uno as deputy chairman of Gerindra’s Advisory Board. Prabowo, as we all know, also serves as chairman of Gerindra’s Advisory Board. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
