JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced on Monday (Mar. 2) that they have handed over the case implicating Police Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan to the Attorney General Office (AGO).
Therefore, the authority to either continue or stop the investigation into Budi Gunawan case is now in the hand of AGO.
KPK Deputy Chief Johan Budi SP stated that the hand over of Budi Gunawan case to the AGO is already accordance to the KPK Law No. 30/2002. He said that the hand over is a legal mechanism taken by the KPK following the ruling from the the South Jakarta District Court that ruled in favor to Budi Gunawan’s pre-trial petition.
Previously, KPK has named Budi Gunawan as a graft suspect. But Budi Gunawan fought back and won a pre-trial petition against the KPK at the South Jakarta District Court. The Court, in its ruling, ruled that KPK’s decision to name Budi as a graft suspect is baseless and illegitimate. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
