JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has yet decided to file an appeal against the recent verdict from the Jakarta High Court (PT) that reduced the jail term of graft convict Anas Urbaningrum, former Chairman of SBY’s Democratic Party, from 8 to 7 years imprisonment.
In addition, the Jakarta High Court also ordered the prosecutor to return Anas’ asset in form of land at the Krapyak Islamic boarding school in Yogyakarta to the defendant.
Panel of judges of the Jakarta High Court presided by Syamsul Bahri, however, remain orders Anas to pay Rp300 million in fine or to serve additional three month imprisonment.
Previously, Anas has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment by the Jakarta Corruption Court back in Sep, 24, 2014. Anas was proven guilty for receiving gratifications and committing money laundering acts related to several government projects, including the controversial Hambalang sport center.
The verdict, however, is lighter than the demand from the KPK’s prosecutor that demanded 15 years imprisonment to Anas. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
