JAKARTA (Yosefardi) — Graft suspect and former Minister of Religious Affairs Suryadharma Ali refused to answer the summon from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for questioning on Wednesday (Feb. 4) related to the graft case of the haj pilgrimage fund.
Suryadharma’s refusal was delivered by his lawyer Andreas Nahot Silitonga to the press at the KPK’s office. Andreas said Suryadharma actually has a good will to answer KPK’s summon after KPK clarifies an error in KPK’s letter to his client.
KPK’s official Priharsa Nugraha, meanwhile, said earlier this morning that KPK will today question Suryadharma as a suspect in the case.
KPK has named Suryadharma, who is also former PPP Chairman, as suspect in the haj graft case since May. 22, 2014. It was forced Suryadharma to resign from the position of Religious Minister.
KPK charged Suryadharma with Article 2 Paragraph 1 or Article 3 of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 65 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP). KPK previously said they might also charge Suryadharma with the Anti-Money Laundering Law. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
