JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has established an independent team to find solutions over recent friction between the National Police and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

In a press briefing on Sunday (Jan. 26), President Jokowi introduced seven members of the independent team. They are as follows:

1. Jimly Asshiddiqie, former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK)
2. Comr. Gen. (ret) Oegroseno, former Deputy Chief of the National Police
3. Hikmahanto Juwana, law expert from University of Indonesia (UI)
4. Bambang Widodo Umar, police observer
5. Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, former KPK Chief
6. Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas, former KPK Chief
7. Syafi’i Maarif, former

Jokowi, among others, asked KPK and the Police to support each other in eradicating corruption. Jokowi, moreover, asked both institutions to avoid criminalization in law enforcement in the country.

Commenting to ongoing legal processes on KPK Deputy Chief Bambang Widjojanto and Police Chief nominee Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, Jokowi asked the processes to be conducted as transparent as possible.

As reported earlier, the recent friction between police and KPK heats up following KPK’s decision to name Budi Gunawan as a graft suspect. On the other side, the police later named Bambang Widjojanto as suspect and detained him. Latest, the police has released Bambang on Sunday. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
