JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The National Police’s headquarters has filed a pre-trial lawsuit to the South Jakarta District Court to challenge the decision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on naming Police Chief nominee Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as a graft suspect. 

The National Police’s Spokesperson Insp. Gen. Ronny F Sompie and the National Police’s Head of Legal Division Insp. Gen. Moechgiyarto, in a different place, confirmed the motion.

The pre-trial lawsuit will review whether KPK’s decision on naming Budi Gunawan as a graft suspect is legitimate or not.

KPK Deputy Chief Bambang Widjojanto, meanwhile, stated that KPK is ready to face the lawsuit. Bambang said KPK is respectful to Police’s decision to file a pre-trial lawsuit.

As reported earlier, KPK has named Budi Gunawan as graft suspect since Tuesday (Jan. 13) over suspected transactions found in the bank accounts belonging to him. KPK charged Budi with Article 12 letter a or b, Article 5 Paragraph 2, and Article 11 or 12B of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 55 Paragraph 1 point 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP).

KPK also asked the Immigration office to ban Budi altogether with his son, Muhammad Herviano Widyatama, from overseas travel.

Latest, KPK has has blocked several bank accounts belonging to Budi Gunawan. KPK has also summoned six high-ranking police officers for questioning, but unfortunately only one officer showed up. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
