JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The House of Representatives (DPR) has passed the government regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) No.1/2014 regarding direct regional election into law in its plenary session on Tuesday (Jan. 20).

DPR also passed Perpu 2/2014 on regional administration into law. About 442 out of 560 total lawmakers at DPR attended the plenary session.

Some of the lawmakers, however, demanded the revision immediately conducted into the newly law.

As reported earlier, then President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was issued Perpu 1/2014 to replace the controversial indirect regional election Law No. 22/2014. He issued Perpu 1/2014 after public outcry following Democratic Party’s decision to walk out from the House plenary session that passed Law 22/2014.

About 204 regional elections are scheduled to be held concurrently this year in 8 provinces, 170 regencies, and 26 municipalities across the country. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
