JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Chief of the Anti-Money Laundering Agency PPATK, Muhammad Yusuf, also urges President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to cancel the nomination of graft suspect Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as new Chief of the National Police.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) earlier already asked President Jokowi to cancel Budi Gunawan’s nomination.
Speaking to Kompas, PPATK Chief Muhammad Yusuf suggested the President to apologize for nominating Budi Gunawan.
According to Yusuf, Jokowi got wrong data for nominating Budi Gunawan as new Police Chief. Yusuf confirmed that PPATK’s data found about irregularities in Budi Gunawan’s wealth. Yusuf said PPATK has submitted the data to KPK.
As reported earlier, Jokowi is expected to soon announce his decision over Budi Gunawan’s nomination as new Police Chief following the approval from the House of Representatives (DPR).
Jokowi nominated Budi as new Police Chief to the DPR last week (Jan. 9), while the DPR approved the nomination yesterday (Jan 15) in its plenary session.
KPK, meanwhile, has named Budi Gunawan as graft suspect since Tuesday (Jan. 13). KPK charged Budi with Article 12 letter a or b, Article 5 Paragraph 2, and Article 11 or 12B of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 55 Paragraph 1 point 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP).
KPK also asked the Immigration office to ban Budi altogether with his son, Muhammad Herviano Widyatama, from overseas travel. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
