JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) moves forward by asking President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to cancel the inauguration of graft suspect Police Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as the new Chief of the National Police.

KPK Deputy Chief Bambang Widjojanto said KPK treats Budi Gunawan similarly to other suspects. Bambang explained that KPK previously also asked the cancelation of inauguration over other graft suspects.

Indeed, KPK had previously asked the President to cancel Hambit Bintih (former Regent of Gunung Mas) and several elected lawmakers at the House of Representatives (DPR) for the period of 2014-2019, including former Energy Minister Jero Wacik.

As reported earlier, KPK has named Budi Gunawan as a suspect in the so-called fat bank account case on Jan. 13. KPK charged Budi with Article 12 letter a or b, Article 5 Paragraph 2, and Article 11 or 12B of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 55 Paragraph 1 point 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP).(haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
