General (ret) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan has finally been sworn in as Presidential Chief of Staff on Wednesday (Dec 31).
Luhut, one of key supporters of President Joko Widodo during the presidential election, said his main duties would be coordinating various parties in the government.
“Give me time to learn (about this job)…As assistant to the President, I will try to do my best to accelerate the President’s programs,” Luhut said after the ceremony in Jakarta today.
Luhut, who is owner of coal producing company Toba Bara Sejahtra (TOBA), was minister of industry and trade during Abdurrahman Wahid administration.
Luhut was advisor to chairman of Golkar Party before leaving the position to join Jokowi-Kalla campaign, while Golkar endorsed losing candidate Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa in the presidential election.
