JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo revealed on Monday (Dec. 22) that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo orders to abolish social assistance funds (or known as Bansos funds) at regional administrations across the country, Kompas.com reported.

Tjahjo said the abolish of social assistance funds is initiated given various irregularities during the disbursement of the funds implicating a lot of regional leaders and local lawmakers.

Tjahjo, however, said government will maintain some items in the social assistance funds such as for infrastructure and development of worship place.

Back in 2011, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had once presented the results of its study to the Home Ministry regarding social assistance funds prone with graft practices. M Jasin, at that time served as KPK Deputy Chief, said at least 10 loopholes occur on management of social assistance funds which could lead to corruption.

Jasin said PK decided to conduct the study on management of social assistance funds at the local level following its handling of corruption cases since 2009 surrounding the funds.
