JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has decided to extend the detention over graft suspect Annas Maamun, non-active Riau Governor and Golkar Party politician, until Jan. 24, 2015.

Today (Dec. 17), KPK has again grilled Annas Maamun for another session of examination. KPK examined Annas as a suspect in the bribery case related to forest area conversion permit in Riau province.

As reported earlier, KPK has caught red-handed Annas Maamun along with a businessman namely Gulat Medali Emas Manurung in a bribery transaction in Cibubur, East Jakarta. KPK has seized Rp500 million and Sin$156,000 cash money from the transaction. Both Annas and Gulat have been named as suspects in the case.

According to KPK, the bribery transaction was related to the process of the issuance of 140 hectares forest area conversion permit in Kuantan Singingi regency, Riau.

Other than Annas and Gulat, KPK is now also conducting further investigation into former Minister of Forestry Zulkifli Hasan, politician from the National Mandate Party (PAN). The Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) has been repeatedly examined as a witness in the case. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
