JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Several key leaders of the Democratic Party shared their beliefs that former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) will be re-elected as party chairman in the upcoming party’s chairmanship congress scheduled for May 2015.
Democratic Party’s Spokesperson Ruhut Sitompul told Detik.com on Friday (Dec. 12) that SBY will be re-elected through acclamation in the next party’s congress.
Didik Mukrianto, Secretary of Democratic Party’s faction at the House of Representatives (DPR), also shared his optimism that his party could win 2019 elections should SBY be re-elected as party chairman.
SBY had since Feb. 8, 2013 taken over the leadership of the Democratic Party from the ousted party chairman Anas Urbaningrum. At that time Anas had just named as a graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
In further progress, SBY was named as the definitive new Chairman of the Democratic Party in the party’s extraordinary congress held on March 30, 2013.
The Democratic Party is now the fourth largest political party at the DPR with 61 seats, out of total 560 DPR seats or 10.9%. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
