JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Local and international human rights groups urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation into shooting incident killing five civilians and causing 21 others injured in Enaratoli, Paniai, Papua, Monday (Dec. 8).

The Peaceful Papua Network (JDP), the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), and the international Human Right Watch (HRW) are among urging the government to thoroughly investigate the incident.

As reported earlier, five Papuans were shot dead and 21 others were injured on Monday when joint security forces of police and military dispersed a crowd at the Karel Gobay field in Enaratoli, Paniai.

Chief of the Papua Police Insp. Gen. Yotje Mende, meanwhile, stated that the police has formed an investigation team to reveal the incident. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
