JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Andi Darusalam Tabussala, CEO of PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya (MLJ), a subsidiary of PT Lapindo Brantas Inc. owned by Bakrie Group, refused an order from the government to pay Rp1.4 billion of compensation to the victims of Lapindo mudflow in Sidoarjo, East Java, Detik.com reported on Friday (Dec. 5).

Andi argued that the company refused to pay the compensation at the moment due to its financial problem. Andi, however, said Lapindo will obey to the government’s order to pay the compensation.

As reported earlier, Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto urged the Bakrie’s subsidiary to pay Rp1.4 billion of the company’s liability to the mudflow victims.

The mudflow disaster started eight years ago, on May 29, 2006, occurred at oil and gas drilling location operated by PT Lapindo Brantas Inc., a company controlled by Bakrie Group, a business group owned by the family of Golkar Party Chairman Aburizal “Ical” Bakrie.(haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
